Any type of container that would hold feed
and is water proof can be
used, such as garbage cans, boxes, etc. A 20 or 30-gal. galvanized garbage can works,
if you do not have to drive a long distance to your lease to keep it filled. It
weighs much less than a 55-gal. barrel, especially when it is full of corn and you do not
have a good pulley.
Opening in barrel for feed
shoot should be 2" for a funnel.
We are now carrying economical
feed shoots and galvanized funnels. Click on Feed Shoots above for
an economical way with out a funnel. Or click on parts and click
on funnel for a link to our galvanized funnels.
If you do not have access to a funnel a piece of
PVC pipe can be used. Out side dimensions should not be more than
2". Glue a sleeve to a piece of PVC pipe and cut
off some of sleeve leaving enough of a flange to hold the PVC in the container.
Especially if you do not mind if some grain remains in the
container.
Click on Funnel for a diagram for a simple one.
Angle iron can be used to mount the handle to the
container.
Steel tubing can be used to make the legs.
If you wish a tripod feeder, the top rail of a
galvanized chain link fence can be used for extensions.
